IWBDA members are comitted to being "part of the solution" in the prevention of Advocates of Drinking Responsibly Beer distributors and brewers are absolutely committed to reducing drunk driving, illegal underage drinking and alcohol abuse. They are deeply involved in the communities in which they live and do business. The industry has spent over $200 million over the last 10 years to fund research, public safety, and education and prevention campaigns to curb alcohol abuse.

Educate Youth on Underage and Illegal Drinking:
- Distributed over 150 booklets of “Family Talk” and “College Talk” during service club meetings and local taste tests in off-premise accounts.
- Participated and helped host a Resident Advisor Meeting for the 4 Dubuque area colleges. The 2009 meeting was focused on recognizing alcohol and drug problems.
- Distributed “WE ID” and “Prevent Don’t Provide” posters, danglers, cooler door stickers, window stickers, table tents and neons to both on and off-premise accounts.
- Incorporated the “WE ID” message and “Responsibility Matters” message on all points-of-sale in both on and off-premise accounts.
Promote the Responsible Consumption of Our Product:
- Placed a permanent billboard for using a designated driver on a main highway in Dubuque.
- Provided 100,000 wristbands for events.
- Sponsored and helped provide CAV-3200 Portable Multi-Purpose Card Readers to all festivals with the aid of the local police and sheriff’s departments.
- Banners for events always carry a responsibility message.
- Provide cab service for New Year’s Eve in Clinton. Provided over $1,000 in Cab Vouchers during key holiday periods – distributed by sales reps at local on-premise accounts. Partnered with 5 local cab companies.
- Ran continual public service announcements on 4 local radio stations, stressing the importance of responsible drinking and designated drivers year round. Heavy play of PSA’s during holiday focus periods.
- Featured the “Responsibility Matters” logo on all in-house signage.
- Displayed the “Responsibility Matters” and “Want to Come Home With Me Tonight?” posters and banners at special events.
Retailer/Server Training:
- We host Training For Intervention ProcedureS (TIPS) training courses in our hospitality room.
- We work with Helping Services of Iowa to provide Training For Intervention ProcedureS (TIPS) workbooks at a reduced cost to the retailer.
Partner with Law Enforcement:
- Provided 200 Drivers License ID books to the Dubuque, Jackson, Delaware and Clinton County law enforcement agencies.
- Participate in the Dubuque County Safe Youth Coalition to provide extra police officers during prom, homecoming, graduation seasons and the local county fairs.
- Actively involved with the Iowa Alcohol Risk Reduction Committee.
- Provide safe boating information for all marinas in our area
- Financed 1,003 Holiday Designated Driver spots on local television with the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office and the Dubuque Police Department.
