Advocates of Drinking Responsibly

IWBDA members are comitted to being "part of the solution" in the prevention of Advocates of Drinking Responsibly Beer distributors and brewers are absolutely committed to reducing drunk driving, illegal underage drinking and alcohol abuse. They are deeply involved in the communities in which they live and do business. The industry has spent over $200 million over the last 10 years to fund research, public safety, and education and prevention campaigns to curb alcohol abuse.

Educate Youth on Underage and Illegal Drinking:

•Provided “Family Talk” and “College Talk” brochures and videos to schools, libraries, video stores and PTA groups throughout the communities.

•Distributed “WE ID” and “Prevent Don’t Provide” posters, danglers, cooler door stickers, window stickers, table tents, neon’s and point-of-sale to both on and off-premise accounts, focusing on everyday and key holidays.

•Promoted Anheuser-Busch’s “Good Sport Programs” at Iowa Western Community College and sporting events at the MidAmerica Center and other venues. 

•Sponsored Sarah Panzau and her program “Living Proof” to 3 area middle schools and 11 area high schools to teach the students about the effects of making bad choices.  Sarah Panzau’s website: www.sarahsjourney.com.  Schools presented to were Tri-Center Middle School and High School, Underwood Middle School and High School and St. Albert Middle School and High School.  Her message reached over 8,500 students.

 •Worked closely with the Iowa State Fair this year to promote the designated driver theme - “Who’s Your Bud?”.  

•Provided 70,000 “Responsibility Matters” wristbands to the Iowa State Fair as well as local fairs, festivals, concerts and special events.

•Distributed 50,000 coasters across entire state of Iowa in partnership with ABATE of Iowa promoting responsibility.

  

Promote the Responsible Consumption of Our Product:

•Placed “Responsibility Matters” point-of-sale in the market, including neon’s, table tents, messages on scoreboards, PSA announcements, etc. and  Placed “Responsibility Matters” point-of-sale at all special events.

•Worked with local radio stations to offer “Holiday Safe Ride” to on-premise establishments for the holiday season from Thanksgiving to New Year’s, providing over 400 cab rides home. Provided cab rides home through a program called “Alert Cab” for St. Patrick’s Day and will also be running the “Alert Cab” program on Thanksgiving Eve and during the winter holiday season.

•Provided over 300 radio PSA’s on local stations reminding people to drink responsibly, and to designate a driver.

•Placed 165 radio spots in November and December promoting moderate consumption and the use of a designated driver.

•Placed 6 articles in local newspapers reminding people to drink responsibly, to designate a driver, and giving tips on how to have a safe holiday season during all key holidays.

•Placed 11 billboards with safe driving messages during March, April, May, June, July, October, November and December.  

•Handed out motorcycle safety information and reminders at several bike nights in the market.

•Worked with the local marina on a boating safely campaign.

  

Retailer/Server Training:

•Offered Training For Intervention ProcedureS (TIPS) training for on and off-premise retail accounts 12 times a year.  We have two TIPS trainers on our staff.

•Offer “Train the Trainer” program, Training For Intervention ProcedureS (TIPS) once a quarter, which certifies individuals to train their own staff.

•Distributed over 500 “Learn 2 Serve” trainer cards to venues for server training.

•Provided over 600 accounts with information on server training websites.

•Provided and offered free server training through “eTips” to on and off-premise accounts.

•Provided a quarterly newsletter to over 600 accounts including tips on how to identify over-consumption, how to deal with abuse, minors and denying service.

  

Partner with Law Enforcement:

•Partnered with local law enforcement regarding programs to educate youth.

•Provided over 1,000 Drivers License booklets throughout our territories to local law enforcement.

•Offered training materials to support the local police departments in their Training For Intervention ProcedureS (TIPS).

•Worked with law enforcement departments to support their community efforts as well as getting our message out:  i.e. K-9 units, drug enforcement booklets, etc.
