Advocates of Drinking Responsibly

IWBDA members are comitted to being "part of the solution" in the prevention of Advocates of Drinking Responsibly Beer distributors and brewers are absolutely committed to reducing drunk driving, illegal underage drinking and alcohol abuse. They are deeply involved in the communities in which they live and do business. The industry has spent over $200 million over the last 10 years to fund research, public safety, and education and prevention campaigns to curb alcohol abuse.

Educate Youth on Underage and Illegal Drinking:

  • Distributed “WE ID” and “Prevent Don’t Provide” posters, danglers, cooler door stickers, window stickers, table tents and neons to both on and off-premise accounts.
  • Incorporated a social norming program along with the “WE ID” and Designated Driver messages on posters distributed at various athletic facilities and athletic locker rooms around the U of I campus.
  • Incorporated the “WE ID” message and “Responsibility Matters” message on all points-of -sale in both on and off-premise accounts.

  • Implemented new “Want to Go Home With Me Tonight?” Designated Driver program.  We held promotions at on-premise accounts promoting program. Distributed posters, table tents, signage and radio spots that were used to promote the new campaign.

Promote the Responsible Consumption of Our Product:

  • Purchased radio spots on 5 local stations featuring the responsibility message during key holiday focus periods.
  • Ran continual public service announcements on 5 local radio stations, stressing the importance of responsible drinking and designated drivers year round.  Heavy play of PSA’s during holiday focus periods.
  • Ran print advertising in various major newspapers in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City, The Greek Telephone Directory at the University of Iowa, HOOPLA, the Gazette and numerous other small town publications. 
  • Ran advertising in major sporting event programs at the Cedar Rapids Kernels Stadium and Cedar Rapids Rough Riders – Ice Arena.
  • Featured the “Responsibility Matters” logo on all in-house signage.
  • Displayed “Responsibility Matters” and “Want to Come Home With Me Tonight?” posters and banners at special events.
  • Implemented a “Good Sport” program at sporting events, concerts, fairs and festivals.  This program encourages responsible consumption and behavior among adult fans and consumers.
  • Supported Cedar Rapids Power Squadron; an organization that supports boating safety. Provided “Responsibility Matters” and water safety materials on key boating registration days.
  • Provided over 150,000 wristbands to area events and venues.
  • Provided over $4,000 in cab vouchers during key holiday periods that were distributed by sales reps at local on-premise accounts.  Partnered with 5 local cab companies.

Retailer/Server Training:

  • Distributed over 250 “WE ID” Drivers License books to all high volume retailers to assist the staff in properly identifying consumers of legal drinking age.
  • Distributed “WE ID” server buttons “WE ID” and Legal Age Calendars.
  • Offered “WE ID” and “Prevent Don’t Provide” training material to all retail establishments to train them on the importance of properly identifying consumers of legal drinking age.

Partner with Law Enforcement:

  • Partnered with the Iowa State Patrol, the Cedar Rapids Police Department, Linn County Sheriff’s Department and the Iowa City Police Department distributing over 200 Drivers License books.
  • Offered training materials to support the Iowa City Police in their Training For Interventions ProcedureS (TIPS).
  • Sponsored several Training For Interventions ProcedureS (TIPS) training seminars presented by the Cedar Rapids Police Department at our facility. 
  • Provided classroom as well as “WE ID” books for TIPS class participants.
